Community Foodcare

Community Foodcare helps local churches provide food to people and families experiencing food insecurity. With nearly four million people experiencing food insecurity each year (with one quarter of those being children), this project helps the church address a major social issue.

The project has a proven system of operation that can easily be shared with a local church, it also has relationships with food suppliers and councils, which will help churches with food supply and civic support.

• People experiencing food insecurity in the community.
• Lead volunteer.
• A secure room where food can be stored.
• Storage equipment including a fridge, freezer and shelving.
• People willing to donate food items.
• Team of volunteers.

HOW TO RUN THIS PROJECT

1. Contact Community Foodcare about starting the project.
2. Recruit lead volunteer and team.
3. Undergo training with an established Community Foodcare project.
4. Set up a secure storage room, refrigeration, freezer and shelving for room.
5. Mobilise church to provide initial stock of food.
6. Advertise service to community and service providers through attending community groups, committees and appointments with council and service providers.
7. Volunteers create weekly food hampers for the required size of the household.
